The Dream Houses

Sound installation with video projections

This installation explores the strange interiors of the dwellings we encounter in our dreams and how these manifestations of the house and the home are interpreted and navigated. The video projection consists of animated floor plans that are heavily distorted and altered; projected through angled glass windows, these impossible mappings expand and contract as they are reflected around the installation space.

The sounds that form the basis for the audio composition have been recorded in hallways, stairwells, behind doors and through windows, and likewise create impossible concurrences of domestic space across distance and time. Voices of individuals describe dreams of encountering distortions of familiar interiors (such as an undiscovered room, or an endless hallway), in addition to articulating the meaning of these archetypes.
