Ewiger Anklang
Permanent installation in public space
2023
The sonic memorial "Ewiger Anklang" honors Siegfried Translateur, a prominent composer, orchestra leader, and music publicist who was a notable figure in Berlin's cultural scene until he was persecuted by the Nazis and deported to KZ Theresienstadt in 1944. The piece consists of a graphic installation of waltz steps at the former location of the Berlin Sportpalast in Berlin Schöneberg, where Translateur's waltz 'Wiener Praterleben' became famous as the 'Sportpalast Walzer.' A QR code embedded in the graphic allows passersby to access a website with a Hörspiel available in 4 languages and information about the life and music of Siegfried Translateur. The piece can also be accessed online at www.ewiger-anklang.de.
